BECOME A NOTARY IN VIRGINIA

To become a notary in Virginia, you must:

1. Meet the eligibility requirements:
   • Be at least 18 years old
   • Be a legal resident of the United States
   • Be able to read and write in English
   • Be a resident of Virginia or regularly employed in the state
2. Complete the online Notary Application
3. Answer all the interview questions
4. Print the pdf application generated at the end of the online application
5. Pay the application fee
6. Have your signature notarized by a Virginia Notary on Part 3 of your printed application
7. Mail your application and payment receipt to the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth

The application fee is $45 and is non-refundable. You can pay the fee online by credit card at the time the application is created or by check or money order and mailed to the office with the notarized application.

A notarization fee might be required from a notary public to have Part 3 of the notary application completed. To finalize the notary application process, you'll have to pay a $10.00 fee to the clerk.

To be eligible to apply for a Virginia Notary Public Commission, you must be:
