Dylan Mulvaneyâs Bud Light Ad Has the Right Riled Up
Bud Light sent Mulvaney the beer to commemorate the one-year anniversary of her âDays of Girlhoodâ series.
Once again, conservatives have chosen to spend their precious time on Earth getting angry online about a brand deal involving a trans content creator. This time, theyâre angry that trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney has partnered with Bud Light to promote the brandâs Easy Carry Contest.
Mulvaney announced the news in an April 2 Instagram post, donning an Audrey Hepburn-esque fit and addressing the camera alongside several cans of the eponymous beer.
ââHappy March Madness!!â she captioned the post. âJust found out this had to do with sports and not just saying itâs a crazy month!â
To mark the one-year anniversary of Mulvaneyâs popular âDays of Girlhoodâ series, in which the content creator documents everyday milestones in her transition and life as a trans woman, the company also sent her a custom Bud Light with her face on it.
In another video shared to her Instagram story, Mulvaney lounges in a bubbly bathtub enjoying a beer while several other cans sit on a drink stand behind her.
Of course, right-wing pundits werenât content to leave Mulvaney alone and enjoy a cold one with the boys, or whatever cis, straight friend groups do. Instead, a number of them took to Twitter to bemoan her latest partnership.
As reported by The New York Post, conservative commentator John Cardillo misgendered Mulvaney as a âgrown man who dresses like little girlsâ in a tweet reacting to the news, adding, âBrands have to stop listening to their woke creative teams and get in touch with their consumer demographics.â
Per the outlet, columnist Derek Hunter employed a common tactic used by right-wing commentators intended to paint LGBTQ+ people as predators, tweeting, â@Budlight: the groomer of beers.â
At the time of writing, neither Mulvaney nor Bud Light have publicly acknowledged this backlash.
Mulvaney previously addressed the online hate sheâs received for her TikTok videos during an appearance in an October episode of âThe Beauty Ofâ¦,â cosmetic chain Ulta Beautyâs official podcast.
âI get a lot of hate about calling myself a âgirlâ and not a âwoman.â They think Iâm infantilizing myself or that, you know, once you turn 18, youâre no longer a girl,â she said. âSo I think some of thatâs rooted in transphobia. I think in womanhood, I get shamed a lot for liking pink and liking glitter, and Iâm like, âWhy does it bother you so much?ââ
Unfortunately, the Bud Light incident isnât the first time that the right have freaked out over Mulvaney living her life. In December, she shared a TikTok video addressing some of her haters, who had complained to menstrual products manufacturer Tampax, which sent her a few boxes of tampons to give away after Mulvaney mentioned that she makes a habit of carrying a tampon around in public in case someone else needs it.
âThe bigger problem,â Mulvaney said. âIs that you feel me carrying a tampon around is a threat to you and your womanhood. How is someone doing something nice so repulsive to you?â
Right-wing politicians like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn also targeted Mulvaney on the heels of her interviewing President Joe Biden for news outlet NowThis last October, with the latter criticizing the âabsurdityâ of Mulvaney sharing her experiences shopping in public as a trans woman and being stared at because her crotch âdoesnât look like a little Barbie pocket.â
